Changing The Way We Travel

A new generation has entered society and they are changing the way we travel! This generation, referred to as Generation Alpha, are the children of millennials born after 2010. Making them the first generation born entirely in the 21st century.

But how are these tech-obsessed children influencing the way their families travel to their timeshare vacations, besides being the only ones to remember to pack the iPad charger? Expedia Group Media Solutions partnered up with Northstar Research Partners to conduct a global survey of 10,000 travelers with children in Generation Alpha to explain.

FUN COMES FIRST
When traveling with children under the age of 10, it's important to keep them entertained and in high spirits for everyone's sanity. According to the survey, 95% of the respondents agreed that when planning a trip “keeping their family entertained and happy is of the utmost importance.” 75% of the respondents said they seek out theme parks and attractions, 64% look for water activities, and 55% look for outdoor activities to keep a smile on their little one's faces.

CONVENIENCE OVER PRICE
Although 8 out of 10 respondents agreed that price plays a primary factor when planning a trip, convenience seems to be more important. When choosing their transportation methods, 52% of respondents said they decide based on convenience, while only 34% said they decide based on affordability.

THE PLANNING PROCESS
Discussing future travel plans with Generation Alpha is very common, according to 80% of the respondents. In addition, 43% of respondents said their children's opinions influence their travel decisions.

SHAPING FAMILY TRAVEL DECISIONS
According to the adults who plan the trips, kid-friendly imagery or information that show fun activities on television are the key to attracting Generation Alpha travelers. On the other hand, adults are more likely to make their decisions based on travel review sites, online travel agencies, recommendations from friends and family, and search engine results. In order to find the right vacation for everyone in the family, it is important to cater to each age group.
